At Steward Observatory, we are pioneering a new era in space science—one that prioritizes agility, innovation, and bold scientific ambition. Our team is currently working on a revolutionary mission that aims to search for evidence of exoplanets around nearby Sun-like stars, as well as characterize light from gravitational wave events and other novel cosmic transients.
But our vision goes beyond individual discoveries. We’re here to dramatically shift the paradigm of how space astronomy is done. Instead of the traditional decades-long development cycles, our mission is built around proving that a rapid design/build approach can deliver not just one, but a series of world-class space astronomy projects—each focused, fast, and scientifically powerful.
Our first ambitious challenge? To successfully design, build, and launch a space telescope using the same principles and processes as a standard ground-based observatory. This bold step will not only validate our approach—it will lay the groundwork for a new, more responsive way to explore the universe.
Together, we're not just reaching for the stars. We're rethinking how we get there.
