In Memoriam: “Cindy” A. Ramirez

Cynthia “Cindy” A. Ramirez, who worked to support Steward Observatory's astrobiology and space science research projects, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Services will be held on Friday, April 11.
The Steward Observatory and the greater University of Arizona community are deeply saddened by the passing of Cynthia “Cindy” A. Ramirez on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Cindy was a well-loved and respected colleague and friend of many at the university.
Over the years, Cindy touched many of us with her warmth and extraordinary kindness. She was passionate and proud of her contributions in all facets of life and the communities she was involved with. Her time at the University of Arizona began in 2013 as an Administrative Associate in the Executive Office of the President. She moved over to support the Government and Community Relations Office in 2016, and then to the RII Research Development Services Office as an Executive Associate from 2022 to late 2024. October 28, 2024, Cindy joined the Steward Observatory group, working with Dr. Daniel Apai, to support our astrobiology and space science research projects. Cindy immediately impressed all of us with her energy and dedication. Dr. Apai remembers “When Cindy arrived, she offered to bring in some decoration to make the office more welcoming – an idea everyone loved”. Cindy also experienced so much joy in hosting visitors and showing them our beautiful campus. Prior to her time at the University of Arizona, Cindy had a very successful career at Raytheon Missile Systems that spanned more than 15 years.
Cindy’s professionalism was her hallmark, and she was extremely proud of obtaining her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona’s College of Humanities in 2020. Her passing is a significant loss to her department and campus, as her devotion and loyalty to her Wildcat community was unmatched.
She will be greatly missed by us all and especially by her husband Carlos, children, Angela (Anthony), Carlos Jr. (Karina), five grandchildren, Anthony, Austin, Adam, Aurora and Andrew and her beloved doggies, Scooter and Zoey.
The family wishes to extend the details of her services to the campus community:
